Welcome to Francis Mining Co. Ltd

Francis Mining Co. Ltd operates the Echo Mine which is situated on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island, 10km southeast of Reefton, in the Garvey Creek Coalfield.

Echo Mine is an opencast mine producing a specialist low ash semi-soft coking coal.  The mine is continually expanding its opencast operation and is in the planning phase for concurrent underground mine development.  Located within a 1,200 hectare tenement containing more than 100 years of coal reserves the mine site has significant growth potential.

Coal is extracted using ‘truck and shovel’ methods and then processed on site.  Processed coal then transported by road to rail loadout and from there by train to the port of Lyttelton on the East Coast near Christchurch.  Lyttelton Port can accept vessels with capacity up to 65,000 metric tonnes.  There is also provision for the coal to be transported to the Port of Greymouth on the West Coast which can cater for ships and barges up to 8,000 metric tonnes.

Francis Mining’s other tenement holdings contain Greenfield mine developments due to come on stream in the near future and potential coal seam gas projects.
